Dainty Mini Doilies :)

From squares to doilies and from doilies to squares, I just keep on crocheting these .  Although I have made a couple of crochet bags and small purses but usually I get hooked to squares and doilies. Perhaps, the sight of instant project completion is bliss. So I keep on making those without bothering about what to do with those pieces.

These two mini doilies were made from the book -- 99 little doilies-- by Leisure Arts.

Doily # 1   OF   99 Little doilies

Doily # 2   OF   99 Little doilies

The book contains a variety of crochet designs and shapes for little doilies. All the pictures in the book are randomly placed in the middle pages with doily number on it. The instructions are in the linear order number and can be followed based on the doily number which you select. In a way it is easy to select your design from pictures at one place rather than flipping through all the pages to choose a particular one.

Size will vary depending upon the thickness of Yarn you use. With a hook size of 1.65 mm and a crochet thread size of 10, most of the doilies range from 5 to 8 inches in diameters. I have also added few snaps from the book under the tab Inspirations.

I am planning to make all 99 of them ! Will keep updated.  Untill then,

Happy Crocheting!!

Preeti.

  2. That is one of my favorite pattern books. I use it alot for the little leftovers on the ball. I thought I would make all 99 also..but I have said that for years. I am curious..what kind of thread do you use..you are in India? Just wondering..I ask everybody because I am curious if some threads work up better or if they have found something I haven't tried. I love DMC Cebelia and use that for all my work, but I am curious. Blessings

    1. Yes, I am in India. I use Anchor mercer crochet cotton size 40 and 20. I also use Anchor pearl cotton but it is very soft and good for edgings only. I am now going to try Anchor knitting cotton. I have placed an order with Anchor agent and need to pick up from the delivery store. This knitting cotton would be thick.

The first doily is made with size 40 thread, the size of the doily turned small and it required a bit of patience to work with this thin thread:(

Thank you for writing in Vikki. I can just hope I will be completing all 99 of them:)

  4. Looking forward to seeing all 99 doilies. Instant gratification is surely bliss! Is size 10 thread same as pearl cotton? Which brand? All the best.

    1. Thank you Sangeetha!

Anchor brand. Just as they have stranded cotton threads for embroidery, they have for crochet too. You can check the anchor site below for various product details. If you want to know the dealers in Ahmedabad who stock Anchor products, there is a PDF file on the contact us page which lists the agents who in turn will tell you about the stores nearby your area.
