Crochet doily

Thank you for your comments on my last post. I am on my way to begin my twelve days of new-project-a-day challenge that starts from 1st Feb.

Here is a quick update on my finished crochet doily which I completed last year but could not make it here due to my blog processing activities.

It measures 14 inches wide and I crocheted it with Anchor size 20 thread and 1.5 mm hook.

I am just so embarrassed to write only few words when I boasted in the last post that I will be back with more words. Can't help it, it's your day, enjoy! :)

Have a great week!

What am I upto? let's see :)

I may not have been blogging but I am upto something and everything :) Sharing my finishes and WIPs . I made few doilies in last two months but I forgot where I kept those while our house was getting painted . Just found them a couple of days back .

Star Shine doily . Free pattern here I used S&N fingering weight cotton yarn . It is soft like pearl thread

Spring Brilliance doily . Free pattern here

I made this with variegated Lizbeth thread size 10 but I am not happy with the outcome . I just had one ball of it and I wanted a perfect sized doily to use up the thread . The design is quite beautiful but I did not do justice to it . I did not have similar type solid thread to give a better finish. I will try again without variegated thread .

Floating lights for Diwali celebrations

floating lights video . Not sure if this will play on windows

Anshita made this Rangoli at the main door

Started a new cross stitch Design by : Zindagi designs
I won this chart from Tiffany at Tiffstitches in one of her giveaways .  Thank you Tiffany !

I started another Durene Jones design and I am working on DMC 28count linen. It is very difficult to manoeuvre the shadowy effect of threads on thinner motifs and I am finding it boring to do so .  Any stitching tips for stitching on linen are welcome . I am contemplating to switch back to aida .

Height chart . I made good progress completing the lower neck of the giraffe , some part of tree and a toucan on the left . Now I am bored of stitching people, fairies and animals .

Spinach in my balcony is going great !

I am doing fine and my treatment for gynecological issues is working fine too . I just need to go for a checkup every six months for four years . I have many things on my todo list and I am way behind in gardening . Need to sow seeds this week . I hope to show little sewing finishes in next blog post . Till then,

Happy crafting

Happy Birthday to me !! :D

Thanks for the great response on my Lady Bird fairy in the last post ! :)

Today is my Birthday and here is some beauty to share .....:)

Pointed Harmony Doily

I made this doily with size 20 Anchor crochet thread and 1 mm hook and it measures around 18 inches at the farthest points . It was very difficult to block so many picots on the doily .
It is a vintage pattern from the book , 'Old-Fashioned Doilies to Crochet ' edited by Rita Weiss . It is also available for free here . Hope you like it .

Have a great day !

Rescuing my blog from oblivion ....

I wasn't left behind in 2016 !! :)
Thank you for your wishes and comments on my last post . It has been more than a month I did not post and in between few days I was away from the blog reading too . Thanks to some of my blogger friends who felt my long absence and checked on me , it means a lot to me :)

I had guests and followed by that , soon after , I went on a family vacation to Mumbai and Goa . Even today , I had a blogging block and wasn't much interested in editing photos . But still I need to give a proof that all is well with my needles , so here it is ....

These are two black and white crochet doilies that I am working on as part of a Ravelry group challenge to make as many as one can in 2017. The white one is complete but needs weaving-in and blocking , so I hope I will be back soon .

Well that's what my first new year post turned out to be but , don't worry , I will not let the blogging block hit me again :) And yes, I might be the last one among the bloggers to say ........

Happy New Year :))

White, after a while !! :)

Monday is here again!! I am glad you enjoyed watching the bird videos . :)

Weekend was not good for me . I got fever on Friday evening and I had to rest until Sunday afternoon . That’s the least I want to have it happen on weekends . It was a fatigue fever so I did not go to a doctor. Few paracetamol tablets had me ensure I lose my hearing senses and drowse without bothering what’s going around in home , especially in kitchen , because other two enthusiasts had taken up my responsibilities :)

I have been making colorful doilies for quite a while and I was longing to make a white one . I made it around a month back so I don’t remember the thread and hook size for this . It measures 19 inches across and the pattern is named as ‘Star with cluny border’ from the book ‘Old time crochet made easy’. So here it is…......

A cross stitch finish and beige doily update !!!

I don’t know how I forgot . Today morning, when I was looking through some embellishments , I saw a crochet flower which I made for the center of the beige doily I showed in my previous post . I was astonished how I not noticed such a big mistake . It was the part of pattern. Anyways , maybe I am growing old ;) I added that and have updated my doily pictures in this post .

But first, another cross stitch finish !! :)

Cute Cross stitch1

This is one of my Turtle Trot SAL projects . Titled as ‘ Drama Queen’, this chart is from the book ‘Smirk attitudes A to Z’ by Kyla May, Leisure Arts publications .

I love those tiny accessories of hers . Aren't those cute ? :) I changed few colors as per my choice . This is made on a 14 count aida fabric using 3 strands of thread. There were too many quarter stitches . The cross stitched portion is 4x6 inches .

And this is my doily ----with the missing flower in the center :) Does it look better now ?

A beige doily and Garden update !!!!

Hi !!!!!! Hope you had a lovely weekend!

I experimented with beige color and I loved this doily while I was crocheting but after taking pictures I am not that a beige color fan now. This is a design from the book ‘A year of doilies Book 5’ by Leisure arts . It measures 12 inches across .

While blocking

On Saturday, we attended the silver jubilee function of Anshita’s school in a big indoor stadium . It is one of the biggest school in the city so the silver jubilee celebration too was grand. We enjoyed it a lot !! :) No cameras were allowed so no pictures . We will get the CD from the school later. Anshita has been in that school for around 9 years . She started going to nursery at the age of 2 .5 years . In India, schooling (Lower kindergarten) starts at the age of between 3 -4 years .

My gardening is by far going fine...…not a total failure . As I mentioned earlier, I got some more flowering plants from nursery

Above are few more of my plants from seeds waiting to be transferred into a bigger pot. These disposable plastic cups are no longer needed at home since everyone (that's me only :)) wants designer disposable cups .  So I used them to pot seeds and later cut it to transfer.

We live on 4th floor. There are not more than 5 floors on any residential buildings in our area as per govt rules . Our balcony gets lot of wind and sun . It is completely covered with iron grill because when I used to go to office, Anshita stayed with a nanny at home . We decided not to take risk and let her roam freely anywhere . Most of them who have kids have installed the grill in their balconies . I love to have an independent house with a small lawn but, here in this area, it costs some INR 20-30 million onwards. There is no point working entire life paying installments .

I have a couple of colorful doilies to block but just do not have enough time . Well, there are many reasons but one of them is this :) lol !! :)

Wish you a crafty week ahead !!

A Gorgeous PK doily !!

Hello friends !! Hope you celebrated a happy Easter with your family and friends on the weekend  :)

I made this Crochet doily called ‘ Windsor Round ’ from the book ‘ Absolutely Gorgeous Doilies ’ by Patricia Kristoffersen .

Made with size 10 crochet cotton and 1.75 mm hook size, this doily measures 13.5 inches across .

I tried to take the above picture with the camera option ' Foliage ' to capture the actual yellow color , but it was difficult to take and most of the images turned blur . This was somewhat ok ; I love those spring colors :)

I am working on some more crochet projects . Hope to share with you as soon as I complete and don’t intend to start any new ones . But , while writing this post when I opened the book to find the doily details , I was again tempted to start one more :)

I am trying to keep control over my crochet anxiety disorder and I want to concentrate more on cross stitch in coming week for my turtle trot update . And when I work on cross stitch , I feel tempted to try some more new cross stitch projects :) Nevertheless , I have decided that whatever WIP count I reach , I will finish at least one of them per month . If that doesn’t happen….then…ummm…I can always forgive myself  ;)  But seriously , I mean to complete and I guess I have achieved a decent success rate so far .

Do write in .
Happy week !!

Cosmos: The Classic Doily !!!!!

Hello!! I just thought of welcoming you into a new week with a touch of splendor :)

This is my first beaded crochet doily about which I posted here.  I completed it couple of weeks back but was having difficulty in taking photos and the tiny beads weren't showing up properly on a light background .

It is a classic design, named as ‘Cosmos’, by Julie Haberberger from the book 'Stellar beauties' by Leisure Arts . My Cosmos measures 13 inches across and is made with Anchor redheart size 20 mercer crochet cotton and hook size 1.5 mm.

The place where I stay , Hyderabad (South India) , is a historic city and is currently famous for pearl jewelry and IT industry . Next week , I will tell a little more about my city . From modern to traditional , the fine jewelry designs are available in many pearl varieties . I have many pearl necklaces , mostly silver base , bought on occasions of marriages in family . But now , there are no marriages in near future . I just wear them on festivals .
The box is a handmade from Kashmir State (North India). I bought this last month from a handicraft exhibition here . I love the color and Kashmiri painting on it .

Hope you like my first beaded crochet attempt and I guess it is successful :)

Have a happy week ahead!

Blast from the past !

Hi all ! Hope everyone has started off with their new resolutions and new projects.

I was just looking into the crochet creations I did some 10 years back and saw this unused doily. I thought of sharing with you all. This doily measures 18 inches across and is made with a local crochet cotton slightly thicker than size 20.
